In the years before social media, before blogs, before the internet, there was Lynn Hershman Leeson. Her 'Electronic Diaries Part 1' is the first segment of an incredibly honest video diary – one of a series of emotional, intimate diaries – made by the artist. Begun in 1984, and completed in 1996, the films follow Leeson talking to the screen about her fears, trauma, abuse, desertion and weight issues. Sometimes she cuts and multiplies her own image, playing with our fragmented idea of identity and emotional selves. The four part series is intimate, DIY and still can shock. - Francesca Gavin
