Everyone has a favourite clubbing moment right? For us here at 4:3 HQ, it was about 3am one night at Salon Des Amateurs hearing Lena Willikens tease out Vessel classic “Red Sex” to a sweating throng of a dance floor. It’s been four long years since “Red Sex” appeared on Vessel’s second LP, Punish, Honey, in which time Seb Gainsborough has kept himself busy with the Young Echo crew and FuckPunk, a deliciously DIY label operation with Ossia. He’s also been working on a third Vessel LP, Queen Of Golden Dogs, which drops next month on regular haunt Tri Angle with stated influences as varied as “a range of writers, the painter Remedios Varo; and a new love.”
The bombast alluded to in Tri Angle’s press release for the album is on full and vibrant display for the latest pre-release single “Paplu (Love That Moves The Sun).” A constant rush of ecstatic vocal samples, garbled strings and dramatic pauses is magnified by a wonderfully colourful visual counterpart from director Pedro Maia.
