The Techno Viking

The story of internet phenomenon Techno Viking goes something like this: director Matthias Fritsch filmed the clip at Berlin’s Fuckparade in 2000. The footage sat on Fritch’s personal website until he finally uploaded it to YouTube in 2006. It then went viral the next year thanks to an obscure Central American porn site, at one point racking up 2 million views in a single night and was watched by over 10 million people over 6 months. This was followed with a lawsuit from the Techno Viking himself, which Fritsch overcame but was forced to ensure the musclebound dancer’s identity remained a mystery. In 2015 Fritsch released a documentary about the infamous meme.
