Matthew Reed's series of audio-visual odes to Felixstowe, home of Robert 'Rimarimba' Cox, for the Freedom to Spend label continues with a postcard for "Pacific."
'This postcard was filmed at Felixstowe Docks, where Robert recorded ships’ foghorns for Below The Horizon, at midnight, on New Year’s Eve, 1983, thirty years earlier. This was the last shot of the whole shoot and I can still feel the skin blistering on the back of my neck as I waited for a ship to come into frame as the sun beat down. It’s also my favorite postcard as I feel it comes closest to nailing the simplicity of the concept best. I like the idea that when we’re looking through the viewfinder, we’re seeing some kind of transmission, either from the past, or the future, bridged by Robert’s music, briefly appearing, and then vanishing.'
