Rimarimba: 'I Wouldn't Ask'

Freedom To Spend enlist Matthew Reed for another visual postcard themed around their ongoing Rimarimba reissue programme. As with previous postcards, 'I Wouldn't Ask' is based around Robert 'Rimarimba' Cox's hometown of Felixstowe.

"I really enjoy Jon Dale’s description of Robert’s music as taking minimalism ‘back to the potting shed’. That perfectly encapsulates it for me: something very Avant-garde but pleasantly fusty and English at the same time. I think seaside towns tend to be a bit like that too. They’re banal and very peculiar at the same time. So my goal here was to abstract some of those everyday seaside objects (merry go rounds, slot machines and arcade games) and then tease out something more surreal. The song also sounds like one long, delirious, chase sequence to me, so I liked the idea of each image chasing the other around in one continuous psychotic circle."
