OO

British artist Rhys Coren makes graphic marquetry paintings, online projects and vibrant hand-drawn animations. He created ‘OO’ in 2011 as an ode to his love of rave. In this piece, which is often exhibited as a two-screen installation, Coren deconstructs Shaft’s 1991 pop-rave tune 'Roobard and Custard.' The original song drew on the theme tune for the British children’s TV cartoon 'Roobard.' Coren slows it down into something almost unrecognisable, splitting the visuals into an abstract version of the cartoon’s characters (a green dog and pink cat). This is rave’s excess seen through the eyes of a child eating crisps in front of a TV after school.
