Scottish artist Rachel Maclean, who represented Scotland at the Venice Biennale last year, makes darkly funny, violent, brilliantly-colourful narrative films where every character is played the artist herself in different extreme costumes. Using green screen technology, digital montage, prosthetics and sound clips, her work is a hilarious take the hyper-pop of Kawaii and golden excess of 18th century Baroque. In ‘Over The Rainbow’, alongside audio samples from Sex and the City, a pink-haired demonic video-game diva sings to Black Eyes Peas’ The Time (Dirty Bit). The result is an '80s horror film mixed with cat memes on mescaline.
