Late 2016: My first exposure to Brian Tessler and Jon Baken’s bizarro universe, Cool 3D World, was stumbling upon ‘Panini’ via the Instagram search algorith. I grew up consuming animation, my own naive attempts at illustration feeding dreams of becoming an animator one day. As I’ve got older, stranger, humourishly grotesque forms of animation have increasingly appealed to me. Therefore 70 seconds of grimacing ghoulish creations entranced by the sight and smell of the humble panini, cascading down in a shower storm of breadcrumbs or floating temptingly before their eyes, was always going to grab my attention.
