Oneohtrix Point Never: 'Black Snow'

The penchant for narrative is one of OPN’s defining characteristics in both sound and film, which is part of the reason his ‘Good Time’ soundtrack was such a triumph. The Lopatin-directed ‘Black Snow’ video depicts the plight of a sharp-toothed, red-skinned protagonist known as the Puppet, a troubled genius striving to create something meaningful while mayhem unfolds around him. With allusions to maligned 1999 film ‘Julien Donkey-Boy’ (a script excerpt is credited), Emperor Nero (who played the violin as Rome burned), Mozart (that wig) and the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster (specifically the “Finger Pointing Worker” figure in the hazmat suit), Lopatin examines his role as an artist in a world wrought with chaos.
