MJ Cole: '90 Miles'

MJ Cole shares the latest video from his new forthcoming album; MJ Cole presents Madrugada. ‘90 Miles’, a captivating and meditative video with a gorgeous combination of piano motifs bubbling over huge, swelling strings that bring the listener a moment of peace and calm during these uncertain times. Directed by Henry Dean, '90 Miles' tell the visual story of the mysterious Madrugada, those strange, seductive hours before sunrise.

It's a deeper exploration into those characters - the surfer and the farmer - and the stories they have to tell about their unique existence. Speaking on the concept, the video’s director Henry Dean says:

“This video explores how we harness nature in the lonely hours of the early morning. Whether we battle the elements for sport or embrace them for sustenance, we are inseparable from our natural surroundings, especially in the forgotten hours between the night and the morning. Through ambient, intimate visuals, we see how these real-life characters interact with their world during the hours of the Madrugada — how they make their mark on nature while nature makes its mark on them.”

Coming from a fast-paced and sometimes overwhelming environment MJ Cole states that the Madrugada is the golden time for creativity:

“Coming from a world of late nights, DJ shows and studio sessions which push through to the morning, the Spanish word “Madrugada” describes this magical time. The time between midnight and rising of the sun. This golden time is a time of no distractions, a time when nature and one’s surroundings become closest. Much of my best musical work has been composed in this magical zone. 90 miles came to me after normal hours with my family asleep downstairs. It’s a slice of Madrugada - an exploration of the unknown.”
