Marc Almond: 'Glorious'

Marc Almond's 2001 'Stranger Things' album – entirely produced, and with most of the instruments played, by Jóhannsson – was not a commercial success on his terms. Odd, maybe, that a synthpop record should pass unnoticed in an time when electroclash was at its height. But then while that scene was leaning to simple melodies, lo-fi day-glo aesthetics and heavy irony, Almond and Jóhannsson looked back to the most opulent side of the eighties, of Trevor Horn and Propaganda, and with utter, grandiose sincerity. And there's for all its poise, there's a pagan wildness to this song and video, that speak fluently to anyone who'll listen of both men's flirtations with the void and the things that live there.
