Fantazia 1992

A funny thing about raving: The bigger it became, the faster the beats came firing out of the sound system. Track down a few videos from the U.K.’s second summer of love - or even as the ’80s slid into the ’90s, when the scene began to coalesce around various strains of breakbeat -and you’ll find the rhythm tend to chug along in a rather sensible 120–130 BPM range. By the early-’90s era of British mega-raves like Raindance and Fantazia, however, tempos of 140+ BPM seemingly were the norm. Judging from this Fantazia gathering from 1992, the kids wouldn’t have had it any other way.
