Lawrence Lek expresses a nation’s heartbreak in this film, depicting Dalston “degenerated into post-apocalyptic delirium”. As the artist puts it, “This is a drowned world of the near future, filled with the ruins of metropolitan life: forgotten nightclubs, DIY art installations, neon-lit music venues, Election booths, Turkish snooker clubs and luxury penthouses.” Drawing on game graphics and animation, we are in the POV of a game player, roaming around a version of London catching fragments of European voices sample from Alain Resnais’ Hiroshima, Mon Amour and Lars Von Trier's Europa. The film, originally commissioned for Open Source Festival in Gillet Square in 2016, pulls apart time, space and depicts our world in transformation.
