Untitled (The Zimbabwean Queen of Rave)

When Zimbabwean singer Rozalla released the international mega-hit 'Everybody’s Free (To Feel Good)' in 1991, she was known in her native country as The Queen of Rave. This was also the year that marked protests and the end of apartheid in South Africa, as Zimbabwe-born, South Africa-based artist Dan Halter’s exceptional film work highlights. Here music and politics are mixed, to deconstruct ideas around unrest, crowds and the desire social and political change. Walter uses found footage to create an open and at times disturbing commentary on the viability of Rozalla’s statement that 'brother and sister, together we'll make it through'.
